The body’s anxiety response
Anxiety is a result of an automic central nervous system response to stress in the environment. It was a part of early mans survival skills and has probably been naturally selected because of the benefits to an organisms survival in a competitive environment. Sadly the response has little relevance to the stress that mankind now faces in his environment and has become increasingly problematic to many sufferers. Of the many anxiety disorders defined by modern Psychology, Generalised Anxiety Disorder is the most common and sufferers experience a wide range of unpleasant physiological symptoms from breathlessness, to full blown panic attacks which can cause severe and long lasting problems. It is understandable, then, that we are continually on the lookout for new and improved natural treatments for anxiety.
Natural Treatments For Anxiety
Anxiety is often treated by the use of Serotonin Inhibitor anti depressants such as Seroxat or Prozac. Increasingly these are seen by the medical profession as only the first line of treatment and there has been a move to include more holistic therapies such as meditation, cognitive behavioural therapy and the use of non chemical and herbal treatments for anxiety. Whatever natural treatment course is prescribed the sufferer has many different choices and the treatment which works for one, might not work for others as the causes of the disorder are highly individual. Drugs are not always the right answer when it comes to natural treatments for anxiety.
