We all watched with awe as the Olympic Games in Beijing began with one of the most incredible opening ceremonies for any event — ever. While about two billion people tuned in to watch the opening ceremony, there were a few people who missed it or perhaps wanted to watch it again.
It didn’t take long for the opening ceremony to find its way onto filesharing networks such as the Pirate Bay. This has severely pissed of the The International Olympic Committee, who have ordered the filesharing service to remove the offending content. About one million copies of the ceremony have been made available through filesharing, which apparently harms “the interest of IOC and its licensees”.
The IOC has yet to hear a response from the Pirate Bay and so it has now asked the Swedish government to help with the matter. Who knows where this filesharing saga may end up.

Whenever I download software I make sure I most careful in what I place on my computer. Not only is a poorly designed application bad for my sanity and productivity, but it’s also a potential security risk. Some software is designed to be malign and it is these that we need to be particularly careful of.
Filesharing software is no different to this rule and whilst I love the Ares filesharing application I am savvy enough to know that for every good version there is a bad egg. I found this to my cost when I was convinced to download and install Ares Destiny (which, I now know, comes with a ‘free’ piece of adware which is virtually impossible to remove from the system).
Fortunately there is help at hand in the form of OfficialAres.com which provides cautious people like me a useful resource for weeding out the bad apples. Their reviews point out those which are contenders for the top, those which are not, and those which are contenders for the dungeon.
With so many versions of Ares available, it’s just nice to be able to get some solid pointers on what you should be looking for. OfficialAres.com offers this as well as some excellent hints and tips on Ares filesharing in general. Well worth a look!
